The Town of Fort Mill will celebrate the nation’s 248th birthday on Wednesday and Thursday with food, fireworks and fun at their Independence Day Celebration.

This free event will be held from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Wednesday (July 3) at the Fort Mill Amphitheater and Walter Elisha Park, 345 N. White St. The celebration will feature music, food trucks, vendors, roving entertainment and children’s activities. Piedmont Medical Center-Fort Mill is also hosting a kids crafts tent.

The evening kicks off with our Most Patriotic Contest where attendees can win prizes for showing off their best red, white and blue attire.

At 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, classic rock and variety band Rivermist takes the stage, followed by a special ceremony at 7:30 p.m. featuring patriotic music and guests including Fort Mill Town Council and local dignitaries. The last act, Blackwater Band, will hit the stage at 8 p.m. playing their selection of Top 40, Blues, Funk and Country music.

Residents can enjoy music and bubbles from Stateline Productions located in the Food Court among 27 food vendors. They can also visit and shop 30 vendors at the event. The evening will close with a fireworks show at 9:15 p.m.

Then, on Thursday, July 4, at 10 a.m., residents are invited to the 52nd annual Firing of the Cannons on Main Street. The Town will host a special patriotic ceremony to commemorate the occasion, followed by the firing of the cannons by resident cannoneers, the Short Family. This will be their 51st year leading this historical event.

Several downtown streets will be closed from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday to accommodate the firing, including portions of the following: White, Main, Confederate and N. White streets.
