The Town of Fort Mill has announced the appointment of Cary Vargo as its new Town Manager, effective July 15.
Vargo previously served as Township Manager for Thornbury and Upper Uwchlan in Pennsylvania for a combined 12 years. His most recent role was as Chief Executive Officer of ARRO Consulting, Inc. in the private sector.
Educationally, Vargo holds a Bachelor of Science in Public Administration from Kutztown University of Pennsylvania, a Masters in Public Administration from Villanova University, and a Master of Business Administration from West Chester University.
Vargo spent 12 years serving as a township manager in Chester County, four of which he also served as the Executive Director for the Chester County Association of Township Officials. He formerly served on the Chester County Tax Collection Executive Committee, the Delaware Valley Health Trust Executive Committee, and the Chester County Managers Consortium Executive Committee.
Fort Mill Mayor Guynn Savage expressed enthusiasm about Vargo’s appointment, stating, “We are pleased to welcome Cary Vargo to Fort Mill. The Town Council conducted an extensive and meticulous search to find the ideal candidate to lead our Town staff and implement the vision and policies of Council. Cary’s leadership and drive make him well-suited for this role. We look forward to collaborating with him to maintain the distinct character of our community and effectively manage our growth challenges.”
Vargo’s tenure begins amidst Fort Mill’s ongoing efforts to balance growth and community preservation, with expectations high for his leadership in navigating these dynamic priorities.
Last year, lifelong Fort Mill resident Davy Broom moved on from his role as town manager for a job in North Carolina. He worked for the town for 21 years and left the town manager role on Aug. 11. He will become the first public works director for the Village of Mavin in Union County, N.C., on Sept. 18.
