A Fort Mill man is being held on domestic violence and kidnapping charges for allegedly abusing his girlfriend Monday night and then refusing to let her call for help, authorities said.
James Donald Brock III, 21, of Mark Trail Lane, was intoxicated and verbally abusing the victim when the assault happened, according to a sheriff’s report.
The victim said she sustained a minor injury to her left ring finger when Brock pulled the sheets off of the bed, which caused her fingernail to break off. As she was actively trying to call the police, Brock took her phone away from her, the report says.
“While James had her phone, (she) tried to activate the SOS feature by Apple but James pushed her away,” the report says. “As she was trying to leave, James pushed her from behind onto the couch and blocked her ability to leave, causing her to fear for her life. James continued to verbally abuse her and denied every attempt she made at getting her phone back and leaving his residence with physical force and intimidation.”
Once the victim broke free, she was able to call for help. Brock was later arrested and remained in jail Tuesday under no bond.
