The Catawba Ridge High School Band earned the “Grand Champion” award Saturday in its first-ever competition, earning the highest score overall.

Among their achievements at North Lincoln High School in Lincolnton, N.C.: Best Music Performance, Best Visual Performance and Best General Effect. The band also finished in first place in class 2-A.

The amazing thing is that the band is in their first year of existence and this was their first competitive event.  They competed against 12 area bands.

The Catawba Ridge band next takes the field at 7:20 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, at North Gaston High School in Gastonia.

In other school news, the Nation Ford High School Band participated in the Kennesaw Mountain Marching Invitational on Saturday at Kennesaw Mountain High School outside of Atlanta.  The band was named Class 4A Champions and was awarded 2nd place overall with a score of 90.75.

Harrison High School from Cobb County, GA won overall with a score of 91.05. 

Nation Ford had the highest overall score in music performance and tied with Harrison in the visual performance caption. 

In Class 4A, Nation Ford received awards for:Best Drum Majors, Best Color Guard and Best Percussion. The Nation Ford Band’s next performance will be at the South Carolina 4A Upper State Championships held at Gaffney High School in Gaffney, SC, on Saturday, Oct. 19.
