Here are five quick facts about the 2019 Scarecrow Crawl in Fort Mill. And don’t miss number 5 with some important information about Halloween night!
The event began four years ago with only 10 scarecrows, increasing to this year’s record of 93 scarecrows that greet folks as they come into downtown Fort Mill.
The Crawl was created with the intent to get people out of their cars and strolling through downtown and the two parks, said Caroline Hasty, the town’s Events Coordinator. Scarecrows can be seen along Main Street in Millstone and Veterans Parks. “Our downtown is beautiful, and what better way to enjoy the opening of the fall season than in Fort Mill,” Hasty said.
Scarecrow entries are made up of town employees, church groups, non-profits, businesses and families. These groups work together in building their teams while adding to the flare of our downtown.
Three judges will select winners in categories such as Most Fort Mill Spirit, Best Use of Recycle/Reused Materials, Best Name, Most Complex, Most Creative and Best Over All. The community can also vote by going to the town’s Facebook page and voting for “Most Likable.” Prizes are $100 restaurant gift cards from Wing King of Fort Mill, Hobo’s, Local Dish, Towne Tavern Express, The Improper Pig of Fort Mill, Toppers Pizza of Fort Mill, Subway and Brixx Pizza of Fort Mill.
The event culminates with activities on Halloween night. Winners will be announced at Trick-Or-Treat Main Street on Halloween night, Thursday, October 31, at 7 pm in the Bandstand. Families are invited to bring the kids to Main Street for a safe, fun-filled Halloween night, enjoying trick-or-treating with town merchants and vendors. There will also be a costume contest and music. (The costume contest begins at 6 p.m. in front of the Bandstand.)
