We have a huge series beginning on Monday here in the area. The Nation Ford Falcons won their final tune up on Thursday afternoon against the Charlotte Royals, 11-1.

The Falcons, 4-2 on the season, have a two-game winning streak going into their three-game set against cross-town rival Fort Mill, beginning Monday March 11, 2019. Unfortunately, with Fort Mill’s 3-1 win over Indian Land this afternoon, the Yellow Jackets enter the series 7-0 on the season.

Like Wednesday’s win against Indian Land, the Falcons took the game out of doubt, scoring four times in the opening inning and four more times in the second inning. With an eight-run lead, Falcons senior pitcher Jeffery Maidhof, a Queens University signee, put the game in cruise control. Maidhof worked three seamless innings, allowing no hits and striking out 8. Maidhof now leads the Region 3-5A with 17 strikeouts this young season and moves his record to 2-0.

Falcons’ shortstop, UNC-bound Tyler Causey, got the Falcons on the board early, doubling to left center field, scoring Bradley Bott. Bott paced the Falcons with a 2-for-2 night, which also included an at bat when he was hit by a pitch by the Royals’ pitcher Austin Bansek, who took the loss.

Bott, Justin Lehman and Magdiel Cotto each drove in two runs for Nation Ford, who scored 26 runs in their past two games, and will need every bit of that offense heading into the Fort Mill series.

Nation Ford, as mentioned above, begins their series next Monday at Fort Mill. The series comes to Nation Ford on Wednesday, before closing it out back at Fort Mill on Friday. All three games will start at 6:30 pm. The Carolina Royals (0-4) next play at SouthLake Christian Academy in Huntersville tomorrow at 5:00 pm.
